Squamish's largest music festival is hunting for one giant parking lot.
The Squamish Valley Music Festival has been approved for temporary use the former 2010 Winter Olympic parking lots on Queens Way. The large gravel lot, which is owned by the District of Squamish, will provide parking for festival goers, according to a temporary use permit filed with the district.
This year more than 17,000 people poured into Squamish to listen to 54 performers. In 2014, festival promoters Live Nation and brand.LIVE plan to kick that figure up to 35,000 people.
After causing traffic jams on Highway 99, the festival site configuration is being shuffled. The main stage will replace this year's campground on the Brennan Park soccer fields. Organizers are looking for a different location to accommodate campers and are in contact with private property owners.
