Three Squamish students were honoured last week for their work in front of the camera.
In February, Howe Sound Secondary School (HSSS) pupils Avinash Bharti, Harpreet Minhas and Tarjoyt Bisla volunteered to star in an awareness video highlighting the dangers of distracted driving.
The short film was created for a Grade 9 audience at Don Ross Secondary School during the institution's orientation day.
The students' work was selected to receive the Ministry of Justice's Crime Prevention and Community Safety Award for youth leadership. The award recognizes youth as positive role models for other children in their community and showing outstanding leadership skills. The winners had to be actively involved in crime prevention and community safety.
The Squamish youth were honoured at the BCCPA Crime Prevention Symposium on Friday (Nov. 2) in the Lower Mainland.
