Squamish's August Jack Motor Inn unveils Food Truck Plaza project

Picture a vibrant scene: food trucks, picnic tables, children's reading groups, and yoga events all in one place. Here’s the vision behind the Squamish Food Truck Plaza, set to open in spring 2024.

Under twinkling strung-up lights, food trucks are lined up, folks are eating at picnic tables, a children's reading group is underway on the nearby grass, and a yoga event is scheduled on the same spot for later.

This is the vision for the Squamish Food Truck Plaza, located beside the motel on the August Jack Motor Inn property on Cleveland Avenue.

For years, the motel owners allowed a community garden on this property, and now it is morphing into another community use, says Sylvia Turowiecka, events manager for the inn.

"We talked with the Squamish council and there was a need for a more permanent place for food trucks," she said.

At the east end of the 12,000-square-foot property, there are water and electricity hookups for three food trucks.

The trucks will be scheduled on a rotating basis.

So far, there are about 10 round, metal picnic tables with umbrellas. More will be added, Turowiecka said.

The plaza is set to open in the spring of 2024.

"We're really going to try and fill up the events calendar for the spring, summer and fall. And depending how it goes... if there is the demand, we could [maybe] make it into a full-season space," Turowiecka said.

Eventually, there will be a webpage, but anyone currently interested in booking an event or wanting more information can email [email protected].
