Squamish's Backcountry and Howe Sound earn recognition at BC Beer Awards

Squamish’s Backcountry Brewing earned three awards and Howe Sound Brewing earned one at the annual event in Vancouver.

A couple of Squamish breweries walked away with hardware from the annual BC Beer Awards held in Vancouver on Oct. 21.

Both Backcountry Brewing and Howe Sound Brewing earned awards at the 2023 event, with Backcountry taking three overall, and Howe Sound earning one.

Backcountry earned second overall among 15 entries in the Smoke and Wood-aged Beer category with the beer, I Don't Know Half of You Half As Well As I Should Like; And I Like Less Than Half of You Half As Well As You Deserve.

The brewery also earned second overall among 76 entries in the Hazy IPA category with its Widowmaker as well as third overall among 67 entries in the North American Pale Ale category for the Trailbreaker.

Meanwhile, Howe Sound Brewing walked away with third overall in the Malty UK and Irish Ale category with its Rail Ale Nut Brown.

Backcountry Brewing made a post to Instagram that said the company was “stoked” to take home a few awards at the event.

“A massive shout out to all our brewers! These are a testament to their hard work, creativity, and attention to detail,” the post continued.

One commenter posited that if there was an award for the “most ridiculous” name then Backcountry would have won easily.

Howe Sound Brewing also posted to Instagram announcing it was “thrilled” to take home second for one of its beers.

“Congrats to all the winners and our industry peers,” the post continued.

Overall, there were 29 categories, 124 breweries, and 902 beer entries at the 12th annual B.C. event.
