Squamish’s population has risen by a small margin, according to the latest statistics released by the province.
For the year of 2020, the government estimates the town rose to 21,273, up from 21,080 in 2019.
This increase follows after BC Stats released numbers showing that in 2019, Squamish actually lost some of population — a noticeable change, given the town’s reputation for fast growth.
While the population was at 21,080 in 2019, it was 21,274 in 2018.
The uptick in population in 2020 puts the estimated population at just one person shy of the 2018 number.
The province’s statistics are released every year.
These numbers are gathered using a different methodology from the federal census, which uses a questionnaire that’s mailed out to everyone. The federal census happens every five years, and one is expected to be conducted in 2021.
