This summer downtown Squamish is going to be one happening place, says Christine Campbell.
“I think that our summer months are completely packed with events,” said the executive director of the Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association.
In early July, up to 700 motorcycles will cruise into Squamish for the 2014 Western Regional H.O.G. Rally, a three-day event with participants filling up the community’s hotels.
Mix that in with the ongoing farmers’ market, a new Wind Festival, Test of Metal and the Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival and you’ve got a smorgasbord of activities to attend, Campbell noted, adding there are already plans underway to start a beer festival, too.
The association is hosting Canada Day, as well as its annual On the Street party on the same weekend as the Squamish Valley Music Festival — Aug. 8 to 10.
Before the summer rush hits, the association has its annual general meeting (AGM) on Thursday, April 10, at 6 p.m.
“We are looking for new board members,” Campbell said, noting three positions are available.
The society consists of businesses and landowners located on Loggers Lane, Cleveland and Second avenues between Pemberton and Vancouver streets. The organization helps guide municipal and group projects to shape downtown’s future.
District of Squamish planner Sabina Foofat is a guest speaker at the AGM at The Ledge Café next Thursday. She will share the municipality’s plans for downtown, initiatives that are a part of the district’s downtown revitalization program.
“It will be great to hear what are actually in the plans,” Campbell said, noting there have been many rumours around the municipality’s newly acquired Mamquam Blind Channel waterfront lot.
International marketing and branding consultant Roger Brooks will also speak at the AGM. He will talk about how to create a vibrant downtown and store hours.
