The two organizations looking to build a new downtown community centre are inviting the community to a public information meeting about the proposal next week.
Last October, Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) and the Squamish United Church officials announced plans to redevelop five parcels of land owned by the church on Fourth Avenue. At the time, proponents said the plan included a new church, a neighbourhood community centre in the existing church and a new, three-storey building that would include headquarters for SCSS's programs and services, and perhaps social housing.
"Our work has progressed since then," Estelle Taylor, SSCS resource development and community engagement manager and capital campaign coordinator, wrote in an emailed invitation. "We are putting together solid financial models and fundraising plans, and we have been moving forward with designs for the new building."
On Wednesday (Feb. 29), SSCS and United Church have scheduled a public information meeting about the project. The meeting, which takes place at the United Church, at Fourth Avenue and Victoria Street, begins at 6 p.m., with a formal presentation starting at 7.
