Next time you are buying or selling online, rather than inviting the person to your home or to a parking lot to exchange goods, consider heading to the Squamish RCMP detachment.
As with any RCMP detachment in B.C., Squamish police encourage those engaged in online trade to arrange pick up or drop off in front of the detachment at 1000 Finch Dr.
“We don’t have a sign, but you are always welcome to use the area in front of any of our detachments as a safer trading and meeting spot, for your buy and sell purchases,” B.C. RCMP tweeted.
Online scams were the most reported type of scam in 2017, according to the Better Business Bureau of Canada.
To avoid being duped the Better Business Bureau suggests:
- Shop on reputable websites
- Read all terms and conditions
- Be wary of offers that are “too good to be true”
March is Fraud Prevention month, an annual public awareness campaign to prevent Canadians from becoming victims of fraud by helping them "Recognize it. Report it. Stop it,” according to the Competition Bureau Canada.
