At the April 11 meeting of the Select Committee on Seniors' Issues, copies of the floor plan of the 10,000 square foot Seniors' Centre that is to be incorporated into Solterra's multifaceted Eaglewind development on Block R in downtown Squamish were made available. The instructions were to look them over, offer suggestions for any changes that might be needed and to report back to the committee's May 9 meeting.

A special meeting of the members of the Tantalus Seniors' Centre and the Seniors' Creative Connections committee was held on April 17, so that a compilation of suggestions for the May 9 meeting could be amassed.

However, the building of a centre specifically for the use of Squamish seniors is of such importance that in order for it to adequately meet the needs of the activities and events that will hopefully take place there, further assistance is being requested from all past and regular members of seniors' committees and activities and anyone else who might have some valuable input into what should be included in the space allocated. There may be persons or groups presently not utilizing the Tantalus Centre because of lack of space or amenities but who would make use of a facility that more adequately met their needs.

All seniors and interested persons are therefore invited to attend a specially called meeting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (May 2) at the Tantalus Seniors, Centre, 1471, Pemberton Avenue, across from Marina Estates.

Observers are also welcome to attend the Select Committee on Seniors' Issues in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Hall at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (May 9) when the needed changes are presented.

Brackendale Elementary School invites all former students, parents and staff members to an Anniversary Celebration at 1 p.m. on Friday (May 5). They are asking for help in celebrating 10 years in the new building, 50 years at the present location and more than 100 years as a school in the Brackendale area. Thanks to the Historic Society they have a picture proving the existence of a school in 1904, but know that it is older than that so would love to hear from anyone knowing more. Anyone with pictures or other memorabilia to share/display are asked to drop them off at the school library - preferably ahead of time. I still have my sweatshirt emblazoned with "I survived the move" when we relocated to the new school, gosh can it really be 10 years ago? The original one room school was located by the big Copper Beech tree on Government Road north of Leskie's Railway Crossing. Please RSVP by Monday (May) to 604-898-3651 to ensure there will be sufficient refreshments on hand to sustain all the memories that will be aired that afternoon.
