Stolen vehicle recovered

Weekly briefs from the Squamish RCMP

A cellular phone service provider this week helped police track down a vehicle that had been stolen in Squamish.

On Monday (July 9) at around 4 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle theft from the 1900 block of Garibaldi Way, RCMP Sgt. Eric Rochette said in a statement.

The owner had left the car running and had left his cellphone inside, Rochette said. With the help of the cellphone service provider, officers were able to track down the phone and locate the vehicle, which was parked beside a tennis court along University Boulevard, he said.

Anyone with information about this or other crimes is asked to contact Squamish RCMP at (604) 892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

The woman, 41, displayed signs of impairment, then blew a "fail" on an alcohol screening device after a police officer found her on Saturday (July 7). In addition to the 90-day prohibition, the woman's vehicle was impounded for 30 days, Rochette said.
