Stray dog leads to serious injury for cyclist

On Tuesday (July 6) at 3:15 p.m., police attended to a report of an injured cyclist on Glacier View Drive. The 58-year-old female was cycling down Glacier View and struck a dog which had ran out of a park onto the roadway in front of the cyclist.

The cyclist catapulted over the handllebars striking her head on the roadway. The female was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital where she remains. Still under investigation.

Driver caught consuming liquor

On Wednesday (June 30) at 1:19 p.m., an off duty member observed a male sitting in a vehicle outside Municipal Hall drinking from a liquor bottle. The male was waiting for a passenger. An on duty member attended and administered a roadside screening test for alcohol which the driver failed. The 62-year-old male was returned to the detachment were readings well over the legal limit were registered. The driver was released to appear in court on Aug. 11 to face a charge of care and control of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol.

Youth Centre vandalized

On Friday (July 2) at 10:29 a.m., a report was received of a break in to the Youth Center on Carson Place. A garage door, TV and glass table were damaged and other items were taken and thrown into a ditch nearby. Still under investigation.

Drunk driver charged

On July 2 at 8:23 a.m. a member on patrol stopped a 2004 Chevy for speeding on Highway 99 near Porteau Cove, the 38-year-old male driver was found to be intoxicated and failed a roadside screening for alcohol. The driver was taken to North Vancouver Detachment and supplied breath samples over the legal limit.

The driver was released on a promise to appear in court on Aug. 25 to answer to an impaired driving charge.
