Police were out in force in Paradise Valley last Thursday night.
A manhunt that lasted several hours resulted in Bradley Boscariol, 23, of Squamish being charged with assault related to an incident that happened a few weeks prior, according to RCMP.
Officers searched through the valley for the suspect for several hours on June 11, police told The Squamish Chief.
The suspect was spotted in a campground in the area after dinnertime, according to Inspector Neil Cross of the Squamish RCMP.
There was previous information that the man could have guns, but no one had actually seen the man with a weapon, Cross reported.
“Officers went up to the area and tried to contain the campground area where the person was seen,” Cross said. Officers from Squamish and Whistler and four members of the Emergency Response Team were deployed, plus a police dog, according to Cross.
The man ran off into the bush. Police searched the surrounding forest for a few hours but were unable to locate him early in the evening. Another sighting came in at about 10 p.m. on the Cheakamus reserve, Cross said, but again the man eluded police.
At about 1 a.m. on June 12, the man was found on the reserve lands and was arrested without incident, according to Cross. No guns were found on the suspect.
“He is currently in custody and will be taken before the courts,” Cross said on June 12.
Cross said no residents were locked down during the evening, and the public was not in danger.
The man was known to police prior to this incident, he added.
