Police are looking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in a Squamish business burglary and theft that occurred last October, resulting in the theft of a cheque in the amount of $200,000.
On Oct. 10, someone broke a window of a business in the 1500 block of Pemberton Avenue and stole the cheque from an office cabinet, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said in a statement.
Police this week released still images of the suspect taken from surveillance video. He is described as a white male in his mid-30s with short, dark hair. At the time of the break-in he was wearing dark clothing and a black backpack with white trim.
Anyone with information about this or any other crime may contact Squamish RCMP at (604) 892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (7477).
Business damaged
On Saturday at around 2 a.m., police received a report from a security company that a business in the 38000 block of Second Avenue had been broken into. Someone smashed an exterior glass door to gain entry and a number of interior office doors were kicked in and cabinets broken into, but apparently nothing was stolen.
Municipal hall entered
Also on Saturday, this time at around 10 p.m., police received a report of an alarm at Squamish municipal hall on Second Avenue. Police and a security company attended and found an open window that had been damaged to gain access. Nothing appeared to have been stolen and police speculated that perhaps the alarm scared away the suspect or suspects.
Computer stolen
A laptop computer was stolen after someone used a rock to smash a window at a home in the 38000 block of Second Avenue on Thursday (Jan. 19) at around 2 a.m. Nothing else was stolen and the theft appears to have been a smash-and-grab style crime, with the thief taking what was visible and accessible through the window.
Man arrested
A 30-year-old Squamish man was arrested after police responded to a report of an assault at a home in the 38000 block of Buckley Avenue on Saturday (Jan. 21) at around 10 a.m. Police were told that the assault against a female and a male, both of whom were known to the alleged assailant, had occurred earlier in the morning. Police were also told that the suspect had threatened two others who were present with violence, Pride said.
