On Aug. 24 at 7:19 p.m., police stopped a 1991 white Nissan for a traffic violation on Highway 99 at Commercial Way. Investigation lead to the occupants being arrested under provisions of the Controlled Substances and Drugs Act and the seizure of several grams of hash and a large amount of currency along with drug paraphernalia used for packaging and selling drugs. Three males - one adult aged 18 and two youths aged 17 - will appear in court in October to face charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
Remax broken into
On Aug. 21 at 2:32 a.m., police received an alarm from Remax Realty on Cleveland Avenue. Police attended and found an office window broken into and the rear door left ajar on exit. A property rep on scene observed a male running away from the building, described as a skinny Caucasian male wearing a red hoodie and white shorts. Computer equipment was located placed on the ground. The matter is still under investigation to view video surveillance and follow-up with forensic identification section.
Drunk driver charged
On Aug. 22 at 2:10 a.m., police conducting a road check on Diamond Road at Diamond Head Road checked a 2007 Dodge Nitro. The 41-year-old male driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was issued a demand for a roadside screening, which registered a fail. The male was returned to the detachment and registered two breath samples over the limit and will appear in court on Oct. 28 to face a charge of impaired driving.
Thieves target vehicle
On Aug. 20, a complainant called to advise their 2005 Dodge Caravan was broken into overnight while parked in the 40000 block of Tantalus Road. Suspect(s) stole a TomTom GPS a pair of sunglasses and cell phone charger.
Angling offences net fines
This week, conservation officers (CO) conducted proactive compliance verification patrols for anglers on the Squamish, Mamquam, Indian, and Cheakamus Rivers, as well as Birkenhead, Anderson, and Green Lakes. Three written warnings and 12 tickets were issued for various angling offences. Two charges for litter were also issued.
Numerous charges dealt in valleys
This week, COs, along with staff from the Ministry of Forests conducted proactive patrols for the enforcement of the fire ban in the Squamish, Mamquam, Cheakamus, Lillooet, and Birkenhead valleys. At least 17 charges under the Wildfire Act, four charges under the Liquor Control Act, two charges under the Motor Vehicle Act, and two charges under the Forest and Range Practices Act were issued this week. One prohibited weapon was seized and transferred to RCMP.
Injured bear destroyed
On Aug. 18, an injured black bear believed to have been struck on the highway near Depot Road, was captured and removed from a backyard in Brackendale. The bear was later destroyed for humane reasons.
