The Chief named Canada's best community newspaper

The Chief has been named the best in Canada by the Canadian Community Newspapers Association (CCNA). The Chief won best all-around newspaper in its circulation category, the CCNA announced Monday (March 16).

The Chief also took second place for the best editorial page, best front page and best sports coverage.

The Chief's sister paper, the Whistler Question was also judged best in its circulation category in this year's CCNA awards. The awards ceremony will be held in Montreal on May 21.

Community newspapers enter the competition by submitting an issue from each of CCNA's two randomly selected week.

Best all-round criteria are based on front-page impact, community news, photography, design, editorial page, advertising content and design, sports pages, classifieds and production quality.

The Chief is also in the running for three different awards at this year's B.C. and Yukon Community Newspapers Association (BCYNA) awards. In addition to general excellence, the newspaper is nominated for two best ad design awards. Winners are to be announced at an awards gala in Richmond on April 4.
