For Amy Fast, it's all about the beef on a bun.
Well, not quite. There's also the family feeling, says the spokesperson for the 55th Annual Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival. Fast's step-father, Bryan Couture, is the oil in the festival's cogs. With 35 Squamish loggers sports under his belt, Couture sits as the association's president. At 12 years of age, Fast started volunteering at the event as a timer.
I love how everybody is having fun, Fast said.
The three-day festival is backed by an average of 200 volunteers. Its committee consists of more than 20 people, all taking on the different components that make up loggers sports the loggers sports competitions, the 10-kilometre run, the kid's sports event and downtown bed races.
We need lots of people, Fast said.
The Squamish Days Committee is currently searching for people interested in volunteering at specific weekend activities. These positions require an approximate four to six-hour time commitment. They include everything from helping out at the loggers sports' grounds to pouring drinks at the beer garden.
Some of the event's volunteers have been around since the beginning, such as its MC Al McIntosh. Over the past five years, the association has seen a few of its long-time supporters retire Nancy McCartney, Evelyn Carson-McLeod Fast noted.
It kind of becomes a real family, she said of the volunteers.
Don't forget to enter a bed race team for Friday (Aug. 3), or a float in the parade on Sunday (Aug. 5).
