The Squamish Chief scoops provincial journalism awards

Team wins gold, silver and bronze at the B.C. and Yukon Community Newspaper Association’s 2023 Ma Murray Awards.

The small but mighty team at The Squamish Chief is celebrating three journalism awards it recently took home.

On May 4, the B.C. and Yukon Community Newspaper Association’s 2023 Ma Murray Awards announced The Squamish Chief as the recipient of gold, silver and bronze awards in two categories. These awards honour the best in community journalism in British Columbia.

The  2023 awards are the 101st iteration.

The Squamish Chief won gold in the Special Publications Award category (under 10,000 circulation), for its 2022 Squamish Holiday Guide, as well as silver in the same category for its 2022 winter edition of its magazine, Discover Squamish

The Squamish Chief also received bronze in the Newspaper Excellence category, in its circulation class. Judges in this category assess the overall quality of the publication, including its appearance, stories, columns, photos and other factors.
