BC Parks has shut down the Stawamus Chief’s Grand Wall climbing area, as well as bouldering zones beneath the wall as a result of a major rockfall on Sunday.

The organization announced on June 28 The Grand Wall area — as well as all trails and bouldering beneath — will remain closed until a risk assessment can be completed.

On June 27, rocks near the iconic Split Pillar came plunging down to the ground.

Squamish Fire Rescue rushed to the scene, as it was mistakenly reported as a wildfire due to the massive amounts of dust kicked up by the fall.

Firefighters say there were no injuries as a result of the incident.
