Police are seeking a pair of suspects in the attempted theft of copper piping from a hotel in Squamish this week.
On Monday (Feb. 3) at 8 a.m., police responded to a report of a theft in progress at a hotel in the 39000 block of Discovery Way, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.
Two males wearing hooded sweatshirts were reported to have stolen a piece of copper pipe from the side of the building. When confronted, they fled on bicycles, leaving the pipe behind.
No other descriptions were available as the males fled quickly after having been noticed. Patrols of the area failed to locate the suspects, he said.
Batteries stolen
On Thursday (Jan. 30), police received a report of the theft of two industrial-grade batteries from machinery at a work site in the 1500 block of Pemberton Avenue. The theft had occurred sometime during the previous week. The batteries were described as a 4D and a Type 31.
No further incidents reported
Police received no further reports of suspicious males claiming to represent the Red Cross since last week's article about a series of earlier reports appeared in The Chief. Pride said legitimate Red Cross solicitors should have proper identification and materials.
"Whether because of the media attention, or because we may have had transient criminals/scammers in the community, it is unknown at this point why there have been no further incidents reported," he said.
