Poop scoop
A black bear left its mark on a Squamish RCMP officer but no injuries were reported other than, perhaps, a bruised ego.
On Aug. 30, police officers arrived at a home on Diamond Head Road to assist a conservation officer with tranquilizing the problematic bear that was trying to climb a tree.
As a crowd of neighbours gathered to watch, one police officer walked below the tree to get a closer view when, to the officer’s surprise, the bear suddenly defecated.
The poop hit the officer who yelled, “I’ve been hit. I’ve been hit” while falling to the ground, reported the Squamish RCMP.
Needless to say, the crowd was in hysterics. The conservation officer was able to tranquilize the bear.
Theft suspect flees
On Aug. 30, a retired police officer called the Squamish RCMP to report a man taking a high-end bike out of a truck and placing it into a car that was parked at the Petro Canada station in Brackendale.
The man fled southbound on Government Road and then onto the riverside after he noticed police had arrived and were watching him.
The bike, a Giant, was recovered and was determined stolen from Whistler, and the car that was parked at the gas station was confirmed stolen from Burnaby.
A woman in the truck was identified, however, she claimed that she didn’t know the man and only offered him a ride to the gas station.
Peeping cyclist
An anonymous caller told the Squamish RCMP that a cyclist was peeping into parked vehicles on the 1800-block of Mamquam Road on Sept. 2. The suspect is described as a Caucasian man in his 20s, five-foot six-inches tall with a slim build and long shaggy blonde hair. He was wearing a plaid shirt and blue jeans and riding a small BMX. Another suspicious activity occurred the next day when an off-duty police officer saw a person fiddling with a lock at the Stop and Secure on Enterprise Place. He walked away when the police officer questioned him and no description is available.
Stolen laptop, iPhone
A violet-coloured HP laptop, an iPad in a pink case, black Bose speakers and a wallet were reported stolen from a Squamish home during the night of Aug. 31. The sliding door was likely left open. Also on the night of Aug. 31, another Squamish resident reported someone had broken into his home on the 39000-block of Government Road and stole a Macbook Pro and an iPhone.
