Local RCMP were put through their paces Friday (March 3) when three separate car accidents occurred within minutes of each other in the evening.

Cpl Dave Ritchie of the Squamish Detachment said the first accident took place at 6:24 p.m. on Hwy 99 between Finch and Centennial Way. The "chain reaction" crash was caused when a vehicle pulled over to the side of the road. Another vehicle stopped to see if that car needed assistance and it was rear-ended by another vehicle, which was also struck by the car behind it. No injuries were reported.

Only seven minutes later and a little north, at Mamquam and Hwy 99, two people were injured when a 2000 Chevrolet and a 2000 Dodge station wagon collided.

A 69-year-old man was charged with making an improper left turn at an intersection. Two people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Then at 6:59 p.m., while traffic was re-routed down Government Road as a result of the accidents, a four-car rear-ender occurred between Mamquam and Centennial Way.

Similarly to the first fender bender, this accident involved one vehicle stopping along Government Road, where it was hit by the car following it, and the two following behind.

Unmanned fuel truck smashes truck

On March 6 at 10:49 a.m. a 2001 GMC fuel truck went for an unscheduled trip without a driver.

Cpl Ritchie said the full fuel truck had been parked by its driver on Clark Drive during a delivery, but he had not set the parking break properly.

The truck rolled down the hill and into a 2004 Ford pickup, which had been parked on the side of the road. The fuel truck ended up in a yard in the 3800 block of Clark Drive, without spilling any fuel.

Stolen tools recovered

More than $10,000 worth of tools and equipment was reported stolen from the 1500 Block of Pemberton Avenue March 6 at about 9:24 a.m.

However, a few hours later Vancouver police apprehended two Squamish men in a stolen 1989 Jeep, which had been reported stolen March 3. Inside the stolen vehicle, VPD discovered the stolen tools. The two men have been charged with the thefts.
