The judges for the national Communities in Bloom 2004 competition come to Squamish this Tuesday (July 20) to assess our community.

Communities in Bloom is a Canadian beautification program that provides information and education and awards in the form of Bloom Ratings for achievement in floral displays, landscapes, turf, urban forestry, community involvement, heritage conservation, environmental awareness and tidiness.

The judges, Donna Harrison and Trevor McKinnon, arrive Tuesday (July 20) and are officially welcomed to the community with a public reception at the Howe Sound Inn at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 21, the judges will do a whirlwind tour of the entire community by foot, vehicle and even from the air, touring downtown Squamish, the Estuary and the Nexen lands, the landfill, Alice Lake and the Brackendale Art Gallery, the Garibaldi Highlands, including the university lands and the trail network, Squamish's recycling facilities, the District's Liquid Waste Treatment upgrade project and Carney's Waste Systems new corridor composting facility, Rose Park and the Mamquam Blind Channel, Brennan Park Recreation Centre and Totem Hall, wrapping up at the North Vancouver Outdoor School.
