Trafficking charges eyed

Weekly briefs from the Squamish RCMP

Two men, including one from Squamish, are facing drug trafficking charges after having been arrested in a traffic stop last week.

On Wednesday (April 17) at around 1:30 p.m., police stopped a vehicle with Alberta licence plates on Buckley Avenue after noticing the occupants acting suspiciously, Squamish RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.

During the traffic stop, police noticed the strong smell of marijuana and saw a ziplock bag of pot in the possession of the vehicle's passenger, a 25-year-old Squamish man, Pride said. Upon further investigation, police located and seized individually wrapped quantities of crack cocaine, methamphetamine and hash. The drugs were individually wrapped, most likely for sale, Pride wrote.

The Squamish man and a 23-year-old Edmonton man were arrested. They face charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
