A pair of Squamish teens are facing marijuana trafficking charges after police discovered pot bagged for alleged sale in their possession during a routine traffic check on the weekend.
On Sunday (June 17) at around 12:45 p.m., RCMP Traffic Services were conducting a traffic check stop at Mamquam Road and Highlands Way when they stopped a truck with two 17-year-old Squamish males inside, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said in a statement.
"Multiple items related to the sale and distribution of marijuana were seized by police along with over 30 grams of marijuana wrapped in numerous baggies," Pride said.
An undisclosed amount of alcohol was also seized from the vehicle. Police are pursuing charges of possession of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking against the teens, Pride said.
Candy machine stolen
Police responded to an alarm at Totem Hall on Wednesday (June 13) around 3:30 a. m. and found that a door had been left unlocked, allowing someone to enter the building. It appears a candy machine was stolen. The investigation is ongoing.
Meter stolen
Also on Wednesday, a B.C. Hydro smart meter was reported stolen from a home in the 4100 block of Lawson Roadin Brackendale sometime in the previous two weeks. While such thefts occur frequently elsewhere, the incidence of such thefts in Squamish so far is low. Police are asking the public to be wary of suspicious activity in their areas as more meters are installed.
Charge pending
On Thursday (June 14) at 12:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a fight in the 1000 block of Wilson Crescent. A female reported that a verbal disagreement with a male acquaintance turned violent when the man pushed her against a door, causing minor injuries. An assault charge against a 27-year-old Squamish man is pending as a result of the incident.
Fuel stolen
Police are investigating the theft of approximately 2,500 litres of fuel from a business in the 1500 block of Pemberton Avenue downtown. The theft occurred overnight on Wednesday-Thursday (June 13 and 14). Locks were cut to access the fuel from two tanks, apparently with a torch cutter. A video recorder at the scene was stolen, but police are examining video surveillance from nearby sites as part of their investigation.
Bikes, kayaks stolen
Two bicycles and two kayaks were reported stolen in three separate incidents last week.
On Friday (June 14), a McNeil BMX bike valued at around $1,000 was reportedly stolen from a home in the 40000 block of Tantalus Road. The bike had been left locked outside the home.
On Sunday (June 17), police received a report of a bike having been stolen from a home in the 38000 block of Myrtlewood Crescent sometime between 11:30 p.m. the previous night and Sunday at 6 p.m. A garage door may have been left open by mistake. A men's Specialized Enduro 17-speed bike, silver and beige and valued at $4,500, was stolen.
Also on Sunday, a pair of kayaks were reported stolen from the backyard of a home in the 38000 block of Guilford Drive in Valleycliffe. A hole was cut in a fence to gain access. The total value of the kayakis is around $2,000.
