Two Squamish residents are facing assault charges in relation to a fight that occurred in downtown Squamish on the weekend.
On Saturday (June 9) at around 4:30 p.m., Squamish RCMP responded to a report of a fight in progress on Cleveland Avenue, near Pemberton Street, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said in a statement.
Officers located two women and a man at the scene. Police believe a 40-year-old man and 37-year-old woman assaulted a 25-year-old woman after the three -who know each other - became engaged in an argument that led to a fight. All three people involved are known to police, Pride said.
The incident came just a week after another confrontation nearby. On April 2, police responding to a report of a fight in the Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot found two men, aged 39 and 32. The two know each other and have a history of conflict, and on this occasion one of the two allegedly attempted to run the other down with his vehicle, and the second man used a bat to damage the first man's vehicle. A chain was later produced "and used in a threatening manner," Pride said.

Attempted break-in
Last Tuesday (June 5), police received a report of an attempted break-and-enter at the Wilson Slough pump station off Government Road. At around 10:30 a.m., someone damaged a gate in an attempt to gain entry. Police believe an on-site alarm scared off the suspect(s). Nothing was stolen.
Firearms charge likely
On Saturday at around 9:45 p.m., police responded to a report of multiple gunshots in the woods behind Britannia Beach. Police arrived and found several people camping in the area, one of whom had two semi-automatic, high-powered rifles and a shotgun, along with prohibited ammunition for the rifles. A 25-year-old West Vancouver man is facing a charge of possession of a prohibited device. The investigation is ongoing.
Business entered
Police responded to an alarm at the Canadian Tire Garden Centre on Sunday (June 10) by bringing in a police service dog in an attempt to locate a person or persons who broke into the business and stole a number of items. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to phone Squamish RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
