Two people suffered injuries in separate assaults at or near Squamish bars during the past week.
The first incident occurred on Wednesday (May 18), when Squamish RCMP officers attended a local bar in response to a complaint of an assault, RCMP Sgt. Eric Rochette said in a statement.
Police found that a male had punched another bar patron in the face, Rochette said. The victim, who suffered facial and head injuries, was first transported to Squamish General Hospital, and then Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, for treatment.
The suspect has been released on a promise to appear in court on June 29. The investigation is ongoing, Rochette said.
On Saturday (May 21) afternoon, police again received a report of an assault at a local bar. They arrived and found the victim in an alley behind the bar, suffering from injuries to his legs and head. Police learned that the suspect had used a stick to hit the victim, located the suspect and made the arrest.
The suspect was released on a promise to appear in court on June 15.
Assault reported
On Friday (May 20), police attended a home on Government Road after having received a report of an assault. A male at the home reported that his girlfriend had assaulted him. The woman had left the residence before police arrived, but police located her and arrested her without incident, Rochette said. The woman was released on a promise to appear in court, with conditions, on June 1.
Weapons charges in works
Last Wednesday (May 18) in the early-morning hours, local police received a report of unregistered guns inside a home on Tantalus Road. Witnesses told Squamish RCMP that the home's occupants were intoxicated, Rochette said.
Police attended and seized a small amount of ammunition and two firearms and arrested a male. Police are seeking several weapons charges against the suspect, who was released with conditions on a promise to appear in court on Wednesday (June 1).
Man arrested
A man who was reported to have urinated on a television and may also be responsible for a broken window at a home on Highway 99 was arrested on the weekend.
The incident was reported to police in the early-morning hours of Saturday (May 21), when a complainant reported that a man at the home had refused to leave. It was reported that he had urinated on the complainant's TV. Police then attended to find a front window of the home broken. The man was released on a promise to appear in court on July 20.
Two injured in crash
Two occupants of a vehicle involved in a rollover crash on Highway 99 on the weekend were taken to Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The crash occurred on Saturday at 7 a.m. between Depot Road and Squamish Valley Road. When police attended, the investigating officer formed the opinion that the driver had been under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred. The driver was arrested and samples of his blood were taken for analysis. The matter remains under investigation, Rochette said.
