Two injured rollover near Murrin Park

Two Squamish men were injured after in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Highway 99 near Murrin Provincial Park on Tuesday (April 30).

Squamish RCMP and Squamish Fire Rescue attended the single-vehicle accident early Tuesday (April 30). Two men were stuck in a car, which came to rest lying on its roof, with the front of the vehicle facing southbound, Squamish RCMP Staff Sgt. Brian Cumming said.

There were no brake marks. The vehicle went straight over the shoulder and slammed into the rock, he said.

Police suspect the driver fell asleep at the wheel on the way home to Squamish from a night shift in the Lower Mainland. Firefighters used the jaws of life to remove the men from the car. The driver was airlifted to Lions Gate Hospital, while the passenger was taken by ambulance to Squamish General Hospital. By Tuesday evening, RCMP were aware that both men were still in care, he said.

They didn't appear to have obvious external injuries, Cumming said.

There was nothing suspicious about the accident, Cumming said, noting that it was lucky there weren't more vehicles involved and traffic on the highway at the time was light.

There was a lot of damage to the car, he said.

Items stolen from trailer

Last Tuesday (April 23), police received a report of a break-in at a storage facility in the 38000 block of Queens Way sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. A chain securing the front gate to the compound was cut an RV trailer was broken into. An X-Box gaming system and numerous games were stolen. Police have seized a number of items for forensic examination as part of their investigation.

Bike stolen

On Thursday (April 25), police received a report of a mountain bike having been stolen from an unlocked garden shed in the backyard of a home in the 41000 block of Tantalus Road. The theft occurred sometime between April 24 at 7 p.m. and April 25 at 11 a.m. The bike was a white men's 21-speed Kona One20, 18-inch frame, valued at approximately $3,500.

Man arrested

On Friday (April 26) at around 7 p.m., police attended a home in the 41000 block of Rayburn Road in Brackendale looking for a 33-year-old Squamish man wanted on several outstanding warrants. The suspect tried to flee on a bike and fought the officers when stopped. After his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of a small amount of methamphetimine and drug paraphernalia.
