Bike thieves had a bit of a field day last week in Garibaldi Highlands, netting six mountain bikes in an overnight string of thefts on the same street.
Squamish RCMP did not say whether the thefts were related, but three homes in the 40000 block of Kintyre Drive were targeted, with the thefts having occurred overnight on Monday-Tuesday (May 20 and 21), RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.
In the first instance, two men's 27-speed Specialized MT bikes that had been left insecure were stolen. One of the bikes was black and one brown.
Two more bikes a grey, men's 21-speed Rocky Mountain SXC70 Racer, valued at approximately $5,000 and red-and-white men's 21-speed Santa Cruz Nomad were stolen from a second home. Again, neither bikes was secured, Pride said.
At the third home, two more bikes were stolen from an insecure garage. They were a grey men's 21-speed Santa Cruz Nomad and a red women's 21-speed Rocky Mountain Slayer.
Computer taken
On Wednesday (May 22), police received a report that a vehicle had been broken into overnight in the 39000 block of Government Road. No damage was done to the vehicle, which had been left unlocked outside the home. Stolen was an HP G62 laptop computer.
Woman assaulted
On Saturday (May 25) at around 3:15 a.m., police responded to a report of an assault having occurred at a home in the 40000 block of Government Road. Police arrested a 31-year-old man for having allegedly assaulted his 29-year-old girlfriend. The suspect was belligerent and uncooperative with the officer at the scene, trying unsuccessfully to resist arrest.
Items stolen
Also on Saturday, police received a report of a vehicle having been broken into while parked in the Garibaldi Provincial Park lot between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. A rear passenger-side window had been broken, and stolen were two U.S. passports, an iPad, an HP laptop computer, a computer bag and backpack.
Motorcycle stolen
On Saturday, police received a report of a black-and-green, 2009 Kawasaki KLX dirt bike having been stolen from the backyard of a home in the 38000 block of Chestnut Avenue. The theft occurred between Friday (May 24) at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 3:30 p.m. A cable lock used to secure the bike had been cut. The motorcycle's approximate value is $4,000.
Man assaulted
On Sunday (May 26) at 1:10 a.m., police attended a pub in the 1900 block of Maple Drive in response to a reported fight having occurred outside. At the scene, a 23-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly having assaulted her 21-year-old boyfriend.
Bus damaged
On Monday (May 27), police received a report that a bus was broken into over the weekend while parked at a compound in the 38000 block of Production Way. A fence was cut to gain access to the compound, and the perpetrator(s) damaged a money dispenser in an attempted theft. Nothing was stolen but the estimated cost of repairs is in the thousands of dollars, Pride said.
