RCMP say a report of an alleged kidnapping at Ecole Squamish Elementary turned out to be a false alarm.
"There's nobody abducting children," said Sgt. Jolaine Percival. "The kid's safe. It was just a seven-year-old had saw something that they thought was a little bit odd."
Police say it all began when a young student reported what appeared to be an unknown man taking a child off school grounds.
RCMP arrived at the school immediately, and the facility was placed on lockdown.
A helicopter was also flown in to provide support. Police dogs were also brought to the scene.
Officers later talked to a person matching the description given by the student, and found no one was in danger.
The Sea to Sky School District says all children at Ecole Squamish Elementary are safe.
“At this time, we can confirm that all of our students are safe in our care,” reads a statement from the school district. “We will continue to debrief and check in with all our staff and students.”
