The school district says that all is safe, following an investigation into an alleged threat on social media related to Don Ross Middle School.
“School administration and school district staff, in collaboration with the RCMP, have assessed and processed the situation thoroughly,” wrote Robin Kirk, principal of the school in a letter to parents. “We are now able to determine that the RCMP has the situation under their control and the school is safe. As a result, the school will be open in the usual manner on Monday.”
Squamish RCMP previously said they were investigating a case where a student may have used threatening language in Don Ross Middle School.
Officer Gareth Bradley said staff from the school as well as police were dealing with the person who allegedly made the threat.
“We received a report that there was a student that issued some threatening language,” said Bradley. “We’re just dealing with it accordingly. It’s not substantiated at this point.”
He would not disclose the nature of the threat, due to an ongoing investigation..
Bradley says officers do not believe anyone is at risk and says he believes that it’s an empty threat, judging from the initial findings.
A further threat assessment will be done.
