The Downtown Squamish Business Improvement District (DSBIA) board named several new directors last week at the organization's annual general meeting.
The new board members named at the AGM on Thursday (April 12) at Zephyr Café, included Alanna Volp, Correy Matheson, Ashley Green and Nancy McCartney. Scott McQuade, owner of Hotel Squamish and Scotties Liquor Store, will serve as president for the second straight year. Other board members include Anna Kirman, Stan Matwychuk and Colleen Mayers.
Also at the AGM, Mayor Rob Kirkham addressed the group and McQuade said he was pleased with the mayor's assurances of District of Squamish support on a number of initiatives. Those included the need for new signage directing Highway 99 traffic to the downtown core, keeping downtown streets and other spaces tidy, and keeping vacant lots in the downtown core presentable.
"It sounds like this council is pretty committed to downtown so as a bunch of merchants, we're pretty happy with that," McQuade said.
"It seems to me like they're definitely exploring options for helping us out."
