As has been the case for the last 29 years, dedicated eagle counters will put on their warmest clothing and head out along the Mamquam River and the Squamish River to see how many eagles they can spot. Once they have covered their assigned area, the trained counters will report in to the Brackendale Art Gallery where a tally will be kept.
Through the course of the count, visitors will come from far and wide to get their own glimpse of the majestic birds that feed on spawned out salmon along the banks of the rivers. Photos will be taken, video will be captured and a little more information will be added to the 28-years of valuable bird data collected in Squamish on the first Sunday of each January.
While the Winter Eagle Festival is the highlight of the weekend there are a few other things planned. Check out the video for more on what’s happening this weekend.
