After its opening week, the Sea to Sky Gondola is on track to surpass its anticipated visitor count.
The company aimed to see up to 300,000 people a year ride the gondola to the ridge just below Mount Habrich, general manager Trevor Dunn said.
“We had a great week,” he said. “We definitely did better than our expectations.”
The new facility officially opened on May 16. Since then, Dunn said he’s met people from all over the world visiting the new site. On Sunday (May 24), approximately 300 people hiked the trail from the base of the gondola to the lodge.
The gondola also caught attention staff didn’t expect. For the past couple of weeks, Nokia and Nissan have been shooting commercials at the gondola. The lodge has also played host to three weddings. “There’s lots of interest from that side,” Dunn said.
The gondola’s wheelchair accessibility has been popular too, Dunn noted. On Tuesday (May 27), he saw three people in wheelchairs enjoying the trails and lodge.
For Dunn the most exciting part of his job is watching the surprised look on people’s faces when they get to the lodge and see the view.
The gondola became the front-page spread to American Airlines in-flight magazine, Itinerary, which has 2.7 million readers.
