Vonn leads after super combined downhill

American Lindsey Vonn, going for her second Olympic gold medal in alpine skiing in as many days, laid down the fastest run in the women's super combined downhill on Thursday (Feb, 18) at Whistler Creekside.

Vonn, who won the downhill on Wednesday (Feb. 17), finished Thursday's shorter downhill run in one minute, 24.16 seconds, 33 hundredths of a second ahead of Maria Riesch of Germany and .80 ahead of U.S. teammate Julia Mancuso, Wednesday's silver medalist in the downhill.

Fernie's Emily Brydon stood in 15th place going into Thursday afternoon's slalom run, 2.33 seconds behind Vonn. First-time Olympian Shona Rubens of Canmore, Alta., had a strong downhill run, finishing 17th, jus 2.74 seconds behind Vonn.
