Nominations for the 2011 Chamber of Commerce board of directors have now closed with three former directors and eight perspective directors vying for nine open spots.

Nominations for the 2011 Chamber of Commerce board of directors have now closed with three former directors and eight perspective directors vying for nine open spots.

Twelve board members volunteer their expertise over two-year terms to represent the Squamish Chamber of Commerce. Six of these directors make up the executive - president, past president, first vice president, second vice president, treasurer and secretary.

Past president Margo Dent, first vice president Stephanie Wells and director Kris Szylowski are not seeking re-election.

"The tireless efforts of Margo, Stephanie and Kris along with their dedication and commitment to the rest of the board, our membership and the staff have been very much appreciated," stated the Chamber of Commerce release.

"They have been tremendous assets to our organization. We will miss them and wish them well in their future endeavors."

The board is made up of people from diverse backgrounds and companies of varying sizes. They meet on a regular basis to assess the concerns of the Squamish business community.

As a result, the board advances support or concern to various levels of government and other public and private sector organizations to enhance the vitality of life in Squamish.

Three current directors, Steven Drinkwater, Maurice Freitag and Darren McCartney will be seeking re-election and eight others will be seeking election.

Nominees include Squamish Therapeutic Massage owner Susan Chapelle, Capilano University regional campus supervisor Wendy Dansie, Prudential Sussex Realty realtor Jasmine Henczel, Lokl CEO Nicole Guertin, sea to Sky Commercial Expert realtor John Jervis, Boardwalk Gaming's Bianca Peters, Squamish CAN's Ana Santos and North Shore Credit Union manager Mark Stephens.

Election ballots will be made available electronically by online voting (or hard copy by request only) on Monday (Nov. 8). Voting goes until Nov. 22 and completed ballots can nominate up to six directors.
