Some passersby stumbled on a dramatic-looking scene Wednesday morning as they picked up their morning coffee in downtown Squamish.
Police cars, officers and police dogs were seen on Cleveland Avenue near the corner of Winnipeg Street just before 10 a.m. Wednesday.
According to Squamish RCMP, a man wanted by North Vancouver police was arrested downtown. The North Vancouver detachment had an arrest warrant for a property crime suspect, Staff Sgt. Brian Cumming of the Squamish RCMP said in an email.
“They learned that he was holed up at a residence in Squamish and they came up to arrest him, but he refused to come out,” Cumming told The Squamish Chief.
The North Vancouver officers were in the process of seeking a “Feeney” warrant, which is authorization to enter a house to arrest someone who has an arrest warrant, when the suspect changed his mind and came out.
“He is now in custody and en route to North Vancouver,” Cumming said Wednesday evening.
