A man wanted on sexual assualt charges is not in Squamish as far of police know, stated an RCMP news release.

An email and flyer circulating around both Squamish and Whistler alleged several attacks on women at or near the Save On Foods parking lot, the Extra Foods parking lot and the Home Hardware store in Squamish.

The Sea to Sky Regional Police Services' investigation revealed that on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at approximately 6:15 p.m., a female was leaving the Save On Foods store and was walking to her vehicle parked behind the Chieftain Mall shopping center. The female saw a suspicious male in the area and felt threatened when he approached her.

No offence occurred and it is not known what his intentions were. "It has been determined that this individual is not a suspect, nor does he match the descriptors provided by the female involved in the incident that occurred on Nov. 7," states the police news release.

Police cautioned the public about circulating unfounded allegations.

"Although well intentioned it can incite false fears and cause harm to innocent individuals. If any incidents should occur we encourage the public to contact the police directly."
