Warrington running for Greens

West Vancouver resident jumps into West Van-Sea to Sky race

A 55-year-old school teacher from West Vancouver is running locally for the Green Party in the May 14 provincial election.

The party confirmed Richard Warrington as its candidate on Monday (April 22), said campaign manager Taylor Verrall. However, the candidate was not available for interviews before The Chief's press deadline on Wednesday (April 24).

Currently unemployed, Warrington made the decision to run for the Greens about two weeks ago and is in the process of finalizing his candidacy with Elections B.C.

Warrington was born in England and raised in Victoria, and spent much of his adult life in West Vancouver and Denmark, where he taught for many years before moving back to Canada, Verrall said.

As a result of [his time in Denmark] he saw socially responsible policies put in place and has seen that those sorts of policies can be implemented in a socially responsible manner, Verrall said. He also strongly believes that the Greens can serve as a viable alternative to the NDP and the Liberals, where we've seen a lot of negative campaigning.

He also believes in a platform that works toward a forward-thinking economy where we focus on securing jobs for 50 years out rather than just the next few years.
