1. Mischief to Vehicle

On Wednesday, Sept. 10 police received a report of a vehicle being damaged while parked at a residence in the 40000 block of Tantalus Road overnight. The letters "KJSP" had been scratched on the rear passenger door of a 2009 Pontiac Vibe. Another vehicle parked along the roadway was also damaged that evening. The grey 2014 Toyota Tacoma was keyed along the passenger side.

 

2. Theft from Vehicle

Also on Wednesday, a report was received of a theft from a vehicle while parked at a residence in the 37000 block of Westway Avenue. The theft occurred sometime between 10:30 p.m. the evening prior and 10:30 a.m. the following morning The 2000 GM Sierra had been left unlocked and stolen was miscellaneous mail, a driver's license, bank cards, a silver IPhone 5 in a grey and white case, and approximately $1,300 in cash.

 

3. Business Break and Enter

On Friday, Sept. 12 police received a report of a break, enter and theft at a business in the 59000 block of Squamish Valley Road. The incident occurred sometime between 11 p.m. Thursday Sept. 11 and 6 a.m. the following morning. The suspect(s) had cut bolts on a fence to gain entry to the property and cut locks on a storage container using torches. A quantity of wiring was stolen, and together with the damages done, the total estimated loss was reported to be approximately $3,000. A container targeted was still smouldering when discovered by an employee, causing a very serious concern that a fire could have spread throughout the business and surrounding area. 

 

4. Duck theft

On Saturday, Sept. 13 at approximately 1:10 a.m. police responded to a report of a theft having just occurred at a business in the 37000 block of Second Avenue. A wooden statue of a duck had been stolen from the establishment, with the suspect fleeing on foot. Based on witness descriptions, a 24-year-old Burnaby resident was arrested a short distance from the scene – without the duck. An extensive patrol of the area, including the use a police service dog, eventually recovered the duck, which had sustained some damage in the incident. The suspect is being charged with the theft.
