Things are finally starting to take shape at Squamish's first mini-golf course.
Jeff and Janice Kirkman have been hard at work putting together the course and Janice told The Chief progress has been going well on the course's creation.
It's looking great and most of the features are here, she said. Most of the holes are poured and we put in sidewalks on Friday (May 17). I think we're doing quite well.
Kirkman said the course has a tentative opening date of June 8 but it really depends on how much work the couple can do in the coming weeks.
It's been a lot of work, she said. We expanded to a bigger project than we originally thought. We've also added more features and started with a flatland course and now it's multi-level. My husband and I are doing most of the work ourselves, so with two people it can take a little longer.
She said each of the course's 18 holes will be unique and will have some sort of feature.
They're all pretty neat, she said. We have a train on a trestle, a logging truck and a steam donkey on the 18th hole. If you get a hole in one on the last hole you get a free round. We also have two waterfalls and a pond that connects the two, so you will be golfing over the pond at one point.
The course has been attracting a lot of curiosity locally and Kirkman said she's pleased to see the local interest.
We constantly have people driving by, she said. We're kind of at the end of a road so you can tell when people are coming to just check it out. Everybody's really excited and asking us when we're opening.
She said birthday party requests are available and they've received a number of requests already. The transformation of the course from dream to reality has excited both she and her husband.
We can kind of see what it's going to be now, she said. A lot of the time it's just been dirt but now you can see the holes and the features.
Whistle Punk Hollow's Facebook page already has 429 likes and Kirkman said the course is scheduled to be open seasonally, roughly from June to October, and will be weather dependent as all holes will be outside. She added that hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and admission rates will be $8 for adults and $6 for children.
The course is located at 1940 Centennial Way, attached to the Eagle Vista RV Park. For more information on the course, visit www.whistlepunkhollow.com.
