A large wildfire is being battled just north of Squamish in the Upper Elaho Valley.
On Friday, July 18, the fire was reported to be 250 hectares in size. The blaze is thought to have been sparked by logging operations in the area, fire information officer Mike McCulley said.
“On the provincial priority list, this fire has been risk-assessed and it’s not high on the list at this time,” he said.
The forest company is working with their crews to get the fire under control and protect the timber that’s already been cut, McCulley said.
Backcountry conditions are extremely dry right now, he noted. People working, playing or ongoing industry in the woods need to be careful.
“This a prime example of what can happen and some of the results so please be cautious out in the woods,” McCulley said.
The fire isn’t close to any residences or other company’s operations. The road to Clendinning Provincial Park is closed due to the fire.
