A raging wildfire burning along the west side of the Fraser River remains out of control.

The Mckay Creek fire, reported Tuesday, is burning just north of the town of Lillooet.

BC Wildfire fire information officer Aydan Coray says the reported size of the blaze has not changed since it was mapped at 5,000 hectares Tuesday night.

At the present time, Coray says 22 provincial firefighters are currently working the fire from the ground. They are supported by two helicopters and five pieces of heavy machinery.

More resources are expected to be deployed later in the day.

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District has issued evacuation orders for a large area spanning from the 14 km mark on West Pavilion Road to the SLRD border with Thompson-Nicola Regional District.

Residents are being told to evacuate along West Pavilion Road toward Lillooet.
