Anyone using the Sea to Sky Highway in the near future — and that's most of us, here in Squamish — would do well to swap their all-seasons for a set of winter tires.
As of Oct. 1, winter treads will be mandatory for cars, vans and pickups, and disobeying the rule can come at a steep price — $109 to be exact.
Chains on summer tires are not a suitable replacement, the province says.
Bigger commercial vehicles must carry chains.
Sections of highways requiring winter tires or chains onboard are marked with roadside signs.
Should you go beyond the signs without the proper equipment you may be turned around by police and be subject to a fine.
