A woman who was discovered in the Elfin Lakes area of Garibaldi Provincial Park was airlifted to Vancouver this week, apparently suffering from hypothermia.
Another group of recreational users discovered the woman on Tuesday (April 1) after she had spent the night in the mountains. She had ventured into the park the previous day, apparently unprepared to stay overnight, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said.
Squamish Search and Rescue mobilized a helicopter search party on Tuesday and she was airlifted directly to Vancouver General Hospital, he said. Her condition wasn’t immediately known.
“We don’t know how she got in the medical condition she was in,” Pride said of the woman, whose identity and hometown also weren’t known. “It looks like maybe there were some hypothermia issues up in the mountains.”
