A Squamish woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly having tried to provide a fake her identity to police last week.
On Friday (Jan. 17) at around 9:45 a.m., police stopped a vehicle for speeding at Thunderbird Ridge and Glacier View Drive, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.
The vehicle's occupants were "well known to local police," Pride said. When spoken to, a female passenger provided a passport as identification and claimed to be that person. The passport, though, had been stolen in a local break-and-enter last September and the 31-year-old woman was arrested.
The woman had an outstanding warrant for her arrest for theft in another jurisdiction, and upon her arrest, was found in possession of drug paraphernalia. As a result of a previous Squamish investigation, the woman was under condition not to be in possession of drug paraphernalia nor of identification, financial cards or mail that was not in her name. She faces charges of impersonation, obstruction, possession of stolen property and breach of probation, Pride said.
Lockers, vehicles entered
On Friday (Jan. 17), police received a report that numerous storage lockers had been broken into at a complex in the 1200 block of Village Green Way. The lockers had had their locks or latches cut off. Items reported stolen from the lockers so far include snowboarding gear, a power tool and a silver Transition Covert 21-speed mountain bike. Two vehicles parked in the same underground lot were also broken into, the driver's-side windows having been smashed. A jacket was stolen from one of the vehicles.
Money stolen
A coin machine at a car wash in the 38000 block of Cleveland Avenue was reportedly broken into sometime during the early-morning hours of Thursday (Jan. 16). Money was stolen from the machine. Police are examining surveillance video as part of their investigation.
Vehicles damaged
On Friday (Jan. 17), police received a report of a vehicle having been broken into overnight while parked in the lot of a hotel in the 38000 block of Cleveland Avenue. The 2004 Toyota Matrix had its rear passenger window smashed, but apparently nothing was taken.
A vehicle was also broken into overnight, this time in the 38000 block of Wilson Crescent. There was no damage to the vehicle, though it had been rummaged through. Nothing was apparently taken.
