The Sea to Sky Clean Air Society (SSCAS) has 90 wood stove exchange rebates each worth $250 for the remainder of 2012. The rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis to Sea to Sky residents, encouraging them to swap out their old wood stoves for new high-efficiency models.
The program is being administered by the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD). Visit www.seatoskyairquality.ca for a list of qualifying communities and participating retailers and installers. The $250 voucher will only be eligible if used on stoves purchased at participating retailers. They will help you fill out your paperwork, which you then submit to the SLRD once the new stove is installed.
New, high-efficiency wood stoves are proven to burn one-third less wood, reduce emissions by up to 70 per cent and significantly reduce the risk of chimney fire. But there are still about 120,000 old, inefficient wood stoves in use around B.C. The units can affect the health of homeowners, their neighbours and overall airshed health.
