This should burst the bubble of anyone who was hoping to use work camps as a way to fix the housing crisis in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District.
The SLRD has revised its policies to state that work camps cannot be used solely as an affordable housing option.
Authorities are clarifying that work camps should support specific, defined projects. The revisions also add in a clause that says the SLRD may require community contributions as a condition of a temporary use permit to offset any impacts from the temporary commercial or industrial use.
Community contribution conditions may be a one-time contribution, annual contribution, or both and will be considered on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the nature and scope of the temporary use.
