The Squamish Public Library, in conjunction with the Whistler Arts Council, will be hosting a series of events for the Celebration 2010 this weekend.

The fourth annual event is designed to celebrate arts and culture in the Sea to Sky corridor, while showcasing Canadian talent and building interest leading up to the 2010 Olympic Winter and Paralympics Games.

While events have been taking place in Whistler since the beginning of February, the Squamish Public Library will be hosting workshops this weekend to highlight writing and photography for adventure travel.

On Saturday Feb. 18 from 10 until noon, Dag Goering will be presenting the Putting the Heart into Travel photography workshop at Capilano College.

For amateur photographers, this informal, interactive workshop explores how photography can be used as a means to connect with local people on our travels. The course also covers equipment, technique and basic composition. Participants are encouraged to bring their previous works for discussion. The cost is $15 or $10 for students Grade 10 and up.

Also on Saturday Feb. 18 from 10 until noon at the Squamish Public Library is a writing seminar with Maria Coffey entitled The Path of the Journal: From first entry to published piece. The cost is $15 or $10 for students Grade 10 and up. Discussions will include the importance of journaling, and how to turn a journal entry into a publishable piece of writing.

Coffey and Goering will also be presenting Vietnam: Adventures off the Beaten Track at the Third Annual Winter Gala, a fundraiser for the Don Ross Outdoor Leadership Program, on Friday Feb. 17 at the Eagle Eye Theatre. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a silent auction before the multi-media slide show and the cost is $20.

The Celebration 2010 originally was presented in February 2003 as a one-time province-wide celebration of arts and culture in support of the 2010 Olympic Bid. Now the hope is the festival will develop local and visiting audiences for the Canadian arts community in anticipation of an Olympic Arts Festival in 2010.

To register or for more information about the workshops offered this weekend, visit the library or call 604- 892-3110.
