Attendees get airborn during a previous edition of CityFest. The City of North Vancouver's annual youth-led festival returns to the Shipyards May 11, 2024.

CityFest, the largest youth-led festival on the North Shore, will return home on May 11 from noon to 4:30 p.m. to mark its 22nd anniversary.

A vibrant range of local youth musicians, bands, visual artists, and the skateboarding community get together at the Shipyards annually to showcase their talents to attendees young and old.

“CityFest is a testament to the boundless talent and creativity of youth in our community,” said City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan. “We recognize the importance of creating interactive and safe spaces for youth to connect with their peers, learn from one another, and have fun to support their growth. Young leaders, artists, athletes, and others make incredible contributions to our city year round, and that’s why we are so pleased to support CityFest and other youth-oriented activities.”

CityFest is held by a volunteer-based committee of young people who meet throughout the year to organize the event for, guess who, the youth.

“We’re so excited for the opportunity to showcase youth talent within the community, especially at The Shipyards,” said Nargess Shokouhian, a CityFest committee member. “CityFest creates a space for the community to come together and highlight all the amazing youth abilities. It’s truly a unique festival that incorporates so many different talents.”

Locals are advised to be wary of the impacts of the event on parking in Lower Lonsdale; Lonsdale Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic between Esplanade and Carrie Cates Court. Victory Ship Way will be closed between Lonsdale Avenue and Wallace Mews. Carrie Cates will have no public vehicle access between Rogers Avenue and Lonsdale Avenue. Traffic Control will assist with Wallace Mews access for businesses and parkade access for Pinnacle residents and visitors.
