As athletes start to transition their focus from the snow and ice to the field and trail, Squamish’s skating club Skate Sea2Sky reflects on a successful 2022/2023 season.
With pandemic restrictions being fully lifted, local skaters were able to compete in the Lower Mainland.
In March, they were able to attend the Super Series Finale in Kelowna, B.C. with their coaches Kari-Ann Macdonald and Brittney-Ann Jordan.
An overall positive showing by skaters was highlighted by the first place finish in Star 6 Women for Piper Evans, according to a club news release.
“Several of the younger competitors had excellent report cards and improvement was seen in skating skills and technique across the board,” said club secretary Lori Grant in the release.
Two of the club’s skaters finished in third place overall, provincewide, this year in their respective categories.
Chloe Pereverzoff scored a season high of 22.05 in Kelowna to win a bronze medal and clinch third spot overall in the Star 5 Women U13 division.
And Faeryn Sherry’s score of 18.21 in Kelowna enabled her to skate away with the third-place trophy for the Star 5 Women O13 division.
In February's Winter Skate held in Surrey this year, Sherry earned a score of 19.47, narrowly beating out the competition. She became the BC Coast Star 5 O13 Regional Champion.
Skate Sea2Sky has another upcoming event in Surrey this May long weekend.
